8Telford 3K Charity Run

Today saw all of the members of 8T complete a 3 kilometer charity run during their lunch time.  The boys have all been busy collecting sponsorship money for the last couple of weeks.  Tomorrow the sponsorship forms and money are due to be collected, so only then will we know how much has been raised.  The form were set a goal to try and raise over £200, I am confident that this goal will be surpassed having heard a number of boys talking about the amount of time and effort they have put into this.

The run itself was completed in the most horrible of weather conditions, it was wet, sticky and foggy; however this was not enough to dampen the spirits of the boys who all completed he course in very good times.  Special congratulations must go to the quickest 3 runners Jamie Weaver who finished 3rd picking up Bronze, Emmanuel Bammidele finshed 2nd picking up Silver and the race winner and Gold medalist was Ryan Frisby who finished the race in little over 12 minutes - a great time.

Senior Rugby Competition

The Senior House Rugby competition started today, unfortunately only one of the two scheduled games went ahead.  Telford just managed to get a team together; however our opponents were unable to field a side which meant that we received a walkover victory.  It is good that we have started the competition with a win albeit in a disappointing fashion.  What is clear though, is we need alot more boys to step up to the mark to play, both Brunel and Darwin fielded enough players for a 12 a side match.

The fixtures are listed below, boys bring your kit it is a great laugh and plenty of people come up to watch the game.  It doesn't matter if you are a rugby player or not; quite clearly some of those on display today were not rugby players and they had a great time playing.

Telford 7 - 15 Newton

Unfortunately 7 Telford's excellent winning run came to an end yesterday lunch time as we were defeated by a very strong Newton side.  Despite never giving up, it was the sheer physical size that told in the end, and Telford were unable to deal with 2 or 3 of Newton's key players.

I was very pleased to see that despite going down by a coupple of scores the team never let their head's drop, and continued playing to the very last minute.  Some pride was restored by the evasive George Pope, who went on one of his trade mark solo darting runs to touch down under the posts, the conversion was added.

Well done to Newton they were deserved winners, but well done to us on finishing a very respectable 2nd place in what was a very competitive and well supported tournament.

Telford Take Early Lead in House Points

Telford have got off to a cracking start with teir rewards for hard work in lessons.  To date we have collected a mosterous 2124 house points, an impressive 110 more than our nearest rivals Brunel.  This is a great start to the year, this early momentum must be maintained though.

Our charity collection is starting to pick up steam too, so far we have raised just under £50, however year 8 soon have their charity 3K run which I hope will easily bring in over £200.  I really hope as a House we can smash our £1000 target that we set in the first House Assembly.

Telford 10-5 Darwin

Prior to the match tension was high, Telford knew that this game would be their toughest test yet.  Defeat would leave Telford with nothing to play for in their last match against Newton, victory would mean everything and set up a clinch match against Newton with a chance to snatch the year 7 tournament.

From the kick off Telford put early pressure on their opponents, forcing them to play within their own 22, after a spell of solid tackling from  the Telford boys, which the spectators have come to expect from the team the pressure told.  There was a series of good passes made to the left wing, where the ball was eventually fed to Justin, who used his exceptional gas to burn off the clutching defenders and put the first points on the board 5-0, kick missed.

The rest of the half ended in deadlock, the two sides cancelling one another out, halfway through the second half Justin again showed his pace to burn to the tryline, only to drop the ball before grounding it, chance gone.  Only minutes later George Pope set off on one of his customary electric mazey runs, to ghost past the defence for 10-0, again kick missed.

With the clock running down the opposition were becoming desperate, it was inevitable that they would apply the pressure, Telford hung on for dear life in their own 22, making a series of last ditch tackles.  Finally the pressure told and the try was scored.  However following an unsuccessful kick, match official Mr Benwell decided it was time, loudly blowing his whistle to end the match.

What a victory 10-5 Telford, who in the process have set up a crunch match against Newton which will take center stage on the last day of the tournament.  All is to play for, come on boys one more win needed!!!!

Telford 42 - 0 Brunel

It was apparent to all that had turned out to watch the Telford vs Brunel match that Telford's reputation as a fiersome rugby side had spread, so much so that Brunel were worried and struggled to get the full complement of players to turn up to play.

The officials took the decision to let the game go forward despite Brunel being short of a player.  It took the Telford side just 6 seconds to score the opening try.  2 further tries followed before the half time whistle blew.

Brunel looked as though they progressively became more disheartened as the game went on, once again there was some fantastic running rugby on display.  The final score eventually ticked over to 42-0, despite looking strong and running out convincing winners; Telford will need to make some minor adjustments to their alignment in order to beat stronger opposition.

However on the plus side todays victory takes Telford to the top of the league position on points difference over Newton who narrowly won their game today against Darwin 19-7.

Telford 21-0 Stevenson

7 Telford got off to a very strong start today in the House Rugby competition, smashing Stevenson 21-0 in the progress.  George Pope started the scoring with a brilliant run from deep inside his own half.  There were some very strong tackles from the telford team in defence most notably from the powerful Emanuel Odia who took no mery.

There was also some strong tackling from captain Ose, who also made his presence felt amongst the ranks of the Stevenson side.  There were alot of other very good performances too many to note in fact, I look forward to the rest of the competition and feel we have a very good chance of being in the running for winning the competition.

Below is some action from the match.
